Outlook for the New Year

Our outlook for the coming year will greatly determine how we live in the New Year. Our choices that we make during the first few days of the coming year will greatly determine how we live in the New Year. It is said that it takes 21 days of making the same choice and it will become a habit in our life.

Can a positive outlook or a negative outlook be habitual? Can positive choices or negative choices be habitual? I certainly think so. Why not choose to fill our heart and lives with positive values such as hope, joy, faith, love and enthusiasm?

The Old Testament writer, Joshua, says that he chose for him and his house to serve the Lord. I find that this has been a decision that I made once in my life. However, as I grow in Christ, I find that I must consciously make this important decision each day that I live. This decision has become a daily habit that I try not to take for granted.

Jerry Kirk writes in “Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper”:

1. Decide to follow God’s principles for how to live your life. Make a conscious decision to choose God’s way. Then you can trust that He will stand by those who stand by Him.
2. Choose each day to serve God. Start each day meeting God in prayer and Bible reading. Doing this prepares you to listen for His guidance and to walk through the day being mindful of Him.
3. Know your area of weaknesses and avoid them. Don’t allow satan to hit you unexpectedly where you are most vulnerable.
4. Don’t try to serve two masters. You can’t serve the gods of this world, (money, success, prestige, etc.) and the God of this universe at the same time. Jesus warns you in Matthew 6:21 that “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”.
5. Protect your thought life. God calls you to guard your mind as one of your prized possessions. Paul tells you in Philippians 4:8 to think on good things. Your mind will determine your actions.
6. Beware of what you see with your eyes. Don’t be deceived by the vision of your eyes. As appealing as it can be, what the world offers, only leads to death.
7. Be careful about the little things of life. Little things have a way of becoming Big things, so don’t compromise your godly standards in the slightest. Stand Strong in God whether the issue is big or…small.
