Project Guatemala - from COGOP Connections - March 7, 2008
The greatest need any child has is Jesus. But it is difficult to listen to the "Good News" when you're hungry, surviving in poor living conditions and with no one to help you. Approximately 1,500 miles due south of Memphis, Tennessee in the city of Teculatan, Guatemala children and their families sift through the trash at the landfill to find food to eat. The workers at Esperanza de Vida (Hope of Life) share the "Good News" of Jesus with these boys and girls. They also help provide school supplies and clothing as well as feeding 300 children, 3 times each week during the school year. Read more about our partnership to feed the children of Guatemala and find out how your church can help by clicking here.

From Kenya - March 3, 2008

Beloved Brethren;

It's relief on Kenyans after two and a quarter dark months. Our nation can now breathe a sigh of relief. Kenyans for the first time in these trying times could afford some laughter. Thank you all for partaking with us in prayers during these challenging times.

To God, we return all the Glory and Honor. Please continue to pray wit us for a lasting trust in the just concluded political negotiations that have offered us this relief.

Blessings of peace to everyone.

Sincerely,

Philip

The following report is from our General Overseer on January 11th, 2008 -

Belarus
From Belarus I was especially touched by the report of how they have shifted around several times now to find a place to worship. The primary reason for this has been the strong restrictions of the government against new churches rising up in Belarus. After mentioning the shifting they have done they reported a solution for now. A pastor that already had authorization and was meeting with a small group offered for them to meet in the same rented space with them and under their official authorization, just at different times.

Thank God for this kindness. It made me think, when the government is against churches, then the churches understand we all must work together in love and cooperation for the glory of God and His gospel. I am sure God wishes all of us in peace and freedom would understand the same truth. Knowing the oppression of Belarus I was blessed by this report. We send blessings to the saints of Belarus and our leader.

Congo Brazzaville
Overseer, Jean Pierre Mukendi, wrote his December report this week. I was amazed as it read like this:

In one meeting 19 were baptized with Holy Spirit and 15 received Christ. In another meeting 34 were baptized with Holy Spirit and 18 received Christ. They fasted the seven days before Christmas. The week before New Year they held a seminar and these reports were given afterward. Two witnessed their deliverance from magic and about the peace they have since they joined the church. Four testified of the blessings from God who gave them higher positions in their jobs. Two testified of their miracle healings during the awakening seminar, and three witnessed the protection of God during the devil's attacks. The attendance was very good and 7 members were added to the church.

Kenya
We have heard a report from the Overseer of Kenya, Bishop Odendo. He has only now received word from the region where more of the violence has occurred. As I read through the report it was saddening to see the loss of life and well being through corruption again in this formerly well established nation of Africa. Here is a brief part of that report. The enemy still seeks those he may destroy all over the world. If any desire to donate, individuals may give through Helping Hands and local churches may give through Harvest Partners. Please join us in praying.

"People broke out in protest by burning and looting property belonging to Kikuyus and evicting them from their homes. Roads were barricaded immediately, paralyzing transport and movement of people. Petrol stations were vandalized and fuel freely pumped out to the public resulting in an acute shortage and severe price hike from Kshs. 84 to 250 per litre.

I tried as the Lord enabled me to assist our Kikuyu brethren out of their houses, hiding them in secret places and then later to the Migori Police Station. Due to the ruthless shooting by the police using live bullets and the cruelty of the people within the town (who did not want to see anyone associated with the Kikuyus), it was very difficult to reach out to our brethren with any assistance.

On the second day, people started breaking into the houses of all the Kikuyus in town and looting everything. With all the above conditions and like of time we only managed to rescue their lives. Most of the Kikuyu brethren lost everything in their homes and businesses.

On the third day, even the Police Station became a risky place for them to be in due to the aggression of the people who were threatening to storm the place. As a result we managed to move the brethren to the border town - Isebania between Kenya and Tanzania where there are no houses nor food."

These are your brothers and sisters in the Church of God of Prophecy family. I am proud of them and the work that God is doing through them. Your giving has helped them minister this far and so you are a part of the work they are doing. Together we are sowing and reaping for the glory of God.   Bishop RE Howard, General Overseer
