Together 

 

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

 

In his meditations on how life works, Solomon the wise King of Israel sees that men working side by side for a common cause; men planning, planting, nurturing and harvesting, building and tearing down, scattering and gathering, waging war and pursuing peace TOGETHER is better than a man trying to do it all by himself. 

 

He recognizes that all of this happens as a part of God’s grand design.  So he says, “two are better than one”; for two can stand together, and succeed together, defend each other – together.  Enjoy a good cry together and laugh with each other.   Solomon envisions people working better together than they could possibly work on their own.

 

And so, I see you, YES YOU; every one of you as a gift from God to myself.  And I a gift to you; for God has so designed that I would come to North Carolina to be with you and you with me in our spiritual journey.  To work and toil with you; cry with you and laugh with you.  To plan, dig, plant, sow, reap, grow and harvest with you.   And it is my prayer that TOGETHER our lives, hopes and faith in God will be stronger, greater, richer, more potent and influential than it could have possibly been if we were making this journey alone.    I am glad that God has brought us together in North Carolina.
